We should take a collective look inward. How we treat ourselves, and everyone around us. The attitude we approach these dealings with. The results we expect to get. And how much we're able to set aside differences to accomplish a goal, however wide the gap and however different we may be. We can barely do this amongst ourselves. How are we expected to do this better with completely alien species whose technological and social prowess almost certainly eclipses our own 100 fold?

I for one would rather go down the path of openness and cooperation, whether with another species or not. It's so much more important for us to find more common ground with each other than to be too concerned with anyone else. We need compassion and reason. And to know that I can count on the people on the other side of the world just as much as the person right next to me, and vice versa
