A reboot of The Matrix is actually happening - is Michael B Jordan replacing Keanu Reeves?

Hollywood was always going to get to it eventually and now it's pretty much official: a Matrix reboot is in the works.

Warner Bros - the studio behind the original sci-fi series which began with 1999's iconic The Matrix - apparently wants to relaunch the movies, although it's all very early days at the moment.

The Wachowski siblings wrote and directed the original plus its two less-well-received sequels (2003's The Matrix Reloaded and, later that year, The Matrix Revolutions). But according to The Hollywood Reporter, they're not involved at this point.

The Wachowskis - sisters Lilly and Lana - allegedly have a strained relationship with producer Joel Silver, who apparently approached Warner Bros about the reboot.

And although the report says the studio is only in early negotiations, a couple of names have already been thrown into the ring.

Zak Penn, the man behind X2, X-Men: The Last Stand and the story for The Avengers, is reportedly in talks to write a script.

Creed actor Michael B Jordan is also being linked to star - we're guessing as Keanu Reeves's replacement.

Mostly because Reeves said just last month that he would only do a fourth Matrix movie if the Wachowskis were involved, and it looks like they may not be.
The original franchise - which also starred Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss and Hugo Weaving - saw Reeves's computer hacker Neo learn from mysterious rebels about the true nature of his reality and his role in the war against its controllers.

The Matrix franchise is one of the highest-grossing in movie history and, as of February 2018, it had generated over $3 billion in revenue.

So yep, we can see why Warner Bros would want to do it all over again...
